About Us
Story Behind the Wheelchair
After a trip to Morocco, Don and Laurie Schoendorfer could not get the images of a disabled woman dragging herself across the street. She could barely escape traffic; no one seemed to notice her. Don is a mechanical engineer and inventor who stopped all prior business in order to develop a low-cost wheelchair easy enough to be shipped to distant parts of the world. The chair is made out of a plastic lawn chair, mountain bike tires, castors and a custom steel frame. Each chair only costs $59.20 to manufacture and ship, but is provided to the individual for absolutely no cost. These chairs have the ability to change the lives of individuals forever.
